Thank You to Young Earth Creationists

First of all, may God bless you, our brothers and sisters in Christ who are of the Young Earth Creationism persuasion. To you we want to give a big “Thank You”. Thank you for displaying the following beautiful traits over the past decades.

• Being faithful in promoting the Bible as the Word of God our Creator in spite of other cultural forces, academic deconstructions, and defamation from hostile forces in our world. Thank you for standing firm in your faith in spite of many influences that would try to persuade you to do otherwise.
• For not only being faithful to the Bible as the Word of God, but also trying to actively promote faithful practices of learning the Bible and storing the Scriptures in our hearts. A wonderful example of this is the Great Recitation that was recently sponsored at the Institute for Creation Research.
• Continuing to examine scientific evidence and investigating it from all angles to make sure that it fits good scientific criteria. This should be the hallmark of good science – continuing to question and search out the truth of all that we can see and understand.
• Offering an alternative belief system that is filled with meaning, hope, and purpose to many seekers of the truth in comparison to a godless culture that would try to teach that mankind is only the result of random processes in an essentially meaningless universe.

We applaud you in these areas and want to join you in these very worthy and laudable efforts.

A Historical Perspective on Young Earth Creationism

In line with what the Apostle Paul pointed out was the “more excellent way” of greater love (1 Corinthians 12:31 and 13), we would like to submit the following perspective for your consideration.

Since the late 1800s, there was a growing skepticism concerning Christianity in different parts of the world, fueled in part by certain interpretations of Darwinism, various cultural forces, failings of Christian societies, the perennial influence of the evil one, and of humankind’s fallen nature. Many influential world views arose that led to despair, injustice, meaninglessness, wars, and tragedies of all types. In response, many faithful Christians began to come up with alternatives that could offer hope, meaning, and the fulfillment of God’s goodness in our lives. Some of the alternatives that were developed to provide hope involved Young Earth Creationism perspectives.

Growing Scientific Evidence for the Bible

In the same time period of the late 1800s and into the 20th and 21st centuries, there has been a deeper understanding of the Bible, archaeology, and parallels between science and the Bible. In particular, this website emphasizes insights concerning Genesis 1 and the parallels with science. We highlight two major insights that we believe lead to a “more excellent way” of love.

• The Hebrew word yom which is translated as “day” in most English translations of Genesis 1 can also be validly interpreted to have other meanings besides a 24 hour time period. One of the meanings includes a long period of time.
• The point of view for the entire Genesis chapter 1 is likely given in Genesis 1:2b: “And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.” (KJV) Combined with what we know from science about the early history of the earth as a watery planet, then it is entirely reasonable and Biblically accurate to interpret the rest of Genesis 1 from the perspective of the Spirit hovering over the earth. Using this point of view, the parallels between the Scriptures and science fall into place beautifully.

Science has also continued to develop as well since the late 1800s and has brought greater insights and details about the nature of our physical universe and the truths of our past. It is often surprising to people in today’s world that these scientific details are increasingly consistent with the Biblical descriptions of creation in Genesis chapter 1, as well as in other passages. Our timeline of Genesis 1 as well as the pages for each day/yom show the consistency between the Biblical descriptions and the scientific descriptions in Genesis 1.

The LORD Brings a More Excellent Way

We applaud the efforts of the Young Earth Creationists in their desire to stem the tide of ungodly belief systems that grew in the late 1800s and beyond. However, now with the Biblical and scientific insights since that time, we would like to suggest that the LORD has graciously brought us to a new era of reconciliation, clarity, and peace. If anyone deeply ponders the strong correlation between Genesis chapter 1 and the findings of science, then a clear question will likely emerge, namely “Is there really very strong evidence for scientific consistency with the Bible?”. The answer to that question could often lead to an encounter with the living and eternal Creator.

We believe that it is the LORD who has graciously given to this and to the following generations this beautiful clarity about scientific consistency with the Bible. This clarity is to lead us to the fulfillment of our times (Ephesians 1:10) and for the LORD to bring us back to Himself as the source of truth, life, goodness, and purpose.

An Invitation to the More Excellent Way

So, we invite all who are of the Young Earth Creationism persuasion to also ponder this scientific consistency with the Bible. And then as your conscience guides you, please consider joining together with us as we strive to show the importance of the Bible to this and to all future generations. The more that we can work together as Christians (John 17:20-24), then the more likely it will be that others can experience the hope, meaning, and love that the God of the Bible promises to all who turn to Him. This goal for evangelization is also what so many of the Young Earth Creationists have faithfully tried to communicate in years past.

So, how do we join our efforts in trying to bear fruit for the LORD? Some of the following possibilities come to mind.

• First of all, examine the evidence given on this website and similar websites to see if you understand the strong consistency that current science has with the Bible. If the evidence is not clear, please contact us with any questions you may have. Our cooperation and effectiveness will be made stronger as our understanding, world views, and goals coincide. The following points could then follow from this agreement to work together.
• Examine Young Earth Creationism teaching materials to incorporate the 2 insights mentioned above and the growing correlation between science and the Bible. Modify the teaching materials as appropriate to incorporate these new insights.
• Rather than having debates between ourselves that weaken our witness to the world, let us try to come together to discuss how we can work together to achieve our following common goals.
  – Showing the Bible to be the Word from our Creator.
  – Trying to persuade others to follow Jesus as their Savior, who is of course the main subject of the Bible.
