Genesis 1 refers to six days in which all of the creation work was done. The Hebrew word that is translated as “day” by most translations of Genesis is the word “yom”. This Hebrew word “yom” has also been translated as various periods of time in other passages in the Bible. This is one of the key points in understanding the Old Earth Creationism perspective.
